Organizational behavior is a field of study, meaning that it is a distinct area of expertise with a common body of knowledge. It studies three determinants of behavior in organizations: individuals, groups, and structure. In addition, OB applies the knowledge gained about individuals, groups, and the effect of structure on behavior in order to make organizations work more effectively. To sum up, OB is the study of what people do in an organization and how their behavior affects the organization’s performance. And because OB is concerned specifically with employment-related situations, it emphasizes behavior as related to concerns such as jobs, work, absenteeism, employment turnover, productivity, human performance, and management.
The goal of this course is to introduce the student to organizational behaviour concepts in order to provide them with the knowledge and tools required to become effective managers in the future. This knowledge and the tools provided will be both conceptual and practical. By the end of the course, the student will have an in-depth understanding of how human psychology affects organizational success and will be able to apply this understanding in their future careers. <<<
